It is obvious that the poet has more experience at this point in life than when he published his earlier books.

This is a touching, well worded collection of poems that follows the transition out of a marriage into a same sex love affair. There are deep felt emotions - the inability to completely communicate during youth, with a wife he loved and sometimes even with a younger lover, as well as the excessive joy of living each day.

Much contemporary poetry seems self-absorbed - as if we have to batter down the door to learn the meaning - a sort of twisted gnosis. But this poet's genius is to make his meaning approachable and even comforting.
